Getting around

Below are some selected links regarding transport in Copenhagen.

Copenhagen Airport Kastrup

Copenhagen Airport - provides information about arrivals, departures, services and transportation.

The Metro

Copenhagen Metro is a fast and easy way of getting from the airport to the city. It is of the few driver-less metros in the world and trains run every 2-4 minutes. Currently it is being expanded subsequently causing a fair amount of construction work around town. Completion is scheduled for 2018. From the airport you can get to Christianshavn, Kongens Nytorv, the transport hub Nørreport, Frederiksberg and Vanløse. The cheapest ticket solution is to puchase a 2-zone punch card that provides 10 trips. The trip from the airport to the city requires 3-zones.

Taxi

Taxi fares from the airport to the city centre costs DKK 250-300 and takes around 20 minutes. Copenhagen taxies companies are regulated and therefore charge the same rates. It is perfectly safe to hail a taxi on the street. Some small additional charges can be added for the transportation of bikes, larger luggage or for late night fares.

Biking

The best way to get around town is by bike. Everything is within biking distance and there are bicycle paths everywhere. During the spring and summer city bikes are available for free use within the city parameters. For good and cheap bike rentals check Baisekeli

Cycle Copenhagen routeplanner
proposes different routes through the city.

Please bike safely. In rush hours the Copenhageners can be quite agressive bikers and forget their manners.
If you drive slow, please keep to the right and look out when overtaking. Many people use helmets for protection when biking.

Driving

It is possible to rent a car in Copenhagen. Even so we don't recommend driving in the inner city due to the many small one-way streets, on-going contruction work and all the cyclists. Parking in the city is expensive and finding free parking space can prove a frustrating experience.

Buses

Buses run effciently all over town, for detailed information (Danish only) check: movia The A buses run every four minutes and the S buses have fewer stops and drive further out of the city.

Boats

Copenhagen is a city that needs to be experienced by water. Water buses take passangers across Copenhagen harbour from Nyhavn to the Opera and beyond. For sight seeing tours the Netto Boats are the cheapest option. It is possible to rent individual boats in Christianshavn or at Fisketorvet. Kayaking has become popular among locals. You can rent kayaks and get tuition from Kayak Republic

Jogging in the city

Another popular activity with Copenhageners is jogging. You will come across the keen runners along the city lakes, in parks such as Fælledparken, by Kastellet and the Embankments of Christianshavn. You will find a guided jogging routes on Running Copenhagen
